Time to Read:
Halloween has arrived, and maybe you just realized you forgot to prepare a costume, or you’re scrambling for some last-minute festive office ideas. Fear not! Here are some quick and easy ways to celebrate Halloween at work that require minimal prep. Plus, we’ve included some last-minute costume ideas you can pull together with items right from your closet (or even the office!).
Trick-or-Treat At Your Desk
Create a candy station in the break room or place bowls of candy at various desks. Encourage employees to take a break and go trick-or-treating around the office. It’s a simple yet fun way to add some Halloween cheer and give everyone a sweet treat. If you can’t do more than your own station then bringing the spooky vibes to your own desk and see if it spreads!

Play Halloween Music
Set the mood with a Halloween playlist featuring classics like “Thriller,” “Ghostbusters,” and “Monster Mash.” Play the music in common areas or during a team gathering. It’s a quick way to bring the Halloween vibe to the office.
Host a Quick Halloween Trivia Game
Take a few minutes to gather everyone and quiz them on Halloween-themed trivia. Ask about horror movie villains, spooky folklore, and iconic Halloween traditions. It’s a quick, fun way to encourage team bonding and a little friendly competition.
Here are a couple of printables I found for free on Google!

Spooky Snacks on the Go
If you didn’t have time to bake Halloween treats, grab some pre-made goodies on your way to work. Caramel apples, Halloween-themed donuts, and festive cookies are easy to find and perfect for sharing. Just place them in the break room, and let everyone enjoy! But if you have the time and ability to spend a little time extra to have some real fun, LILLUNA.COM and a lot of other places online have some amazingly fun ideas!
Tip: When preparing and sharing snacks, be mindful of potential allergies. Even a small amount of cross-contamination from utensils or shared surfaces can be life-threatening for those with severe allergies. Common allergens like gluten, dairy, nuts, and shellfish require extra caution. To ensure everyone’s safety, double-check with coworkers about any allergies or clearly label all ingredients.

Last-Minute Costume Ideas from Your Closet
Stuck without a costume on Halloween? These simple ideas require only basic clothing items that most people already have. Just a few quick additions can have you looking ready for the holiday!
- The Ghost: Grab a white sheet, cut out eye holes (if the sheet belongs to you), and you’re a classic ghost!
- Lumberjack: All you need is a flannel shirt, jeans, and boots. If you have a beanie, that’s a bonus! Carry a fake axe or draw one on a piece of cardboard to complete the look.
- Cat: Wear all black, use a little eyeliner to draw on whiskers, and fashion some quick ears with black paper and a headband.
- Tourist: Hawaiian shirt, a big sunhat, sunglasses, and maybe a camera or binoculars. Add a fanny pack for extra authenticity!
- 80s Aerobics Instructor: Dig out any bright, neon colors or leggings. Pair with a tank top, throw on a sweatband, and you’re ready to go! Extra points if you can find leg warmers.

Office-Friendly Costume Ideas You Can Create at Work
Sometimes you get to work only to find that everyone else is dressed up. Here’s how you can improvise a costume with items you likely have on hand:
Smarty Pants: Grab some sticky notes and write “SMART” on them, and (optional) a handful of pens and attach them to your pants. Boom—you’re a “Smarty Pants.”
Athlete: Toss on your company T-shirt, roll up your sleeves, and use some tape to create a fake headband. Bonus if you can find a random item to use as a “trophy.” Double bonus if you have gym shorts in your car!
Bookworm: Head to the office library or grab a few books lying around. Stack them in your arms, and you’re an instant bookworm.
Social Butterfly: If you have access to any sticky notes or paper, draw social media icons on them (like Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and stick them to your clothes. You can also print and cut these out. Draw (or print) butterfly wings on a piece of paper and tape them to your back. This is one of my absolute favorites!
Fashion Police: Borrow a coworker’s sunglasses, grab a coffee cup, and fashion a quick “badge” from a paperclip and ID card. Strut around the office “inspecting” everyone’s outfits!
Pumpkin Pi: Did you wear your orange fall sweater? Great! Print out a large Pi symbol and attach it to your shirt. Voilà! Pumpkin Pi!

With a little creativity, you can bring Halloween fun to the office, even if you didn’t plan ahead. These simple, last-minute ideas make it easy to enjoy the day and show off a bit of Halloween spirit. Don’t be afraid to let loose and have fun with your coworkers!
